ADS-B 1090 MHz broadcasts are inherently unencrypted and unauthenticated, leaving airliners and eVTOLs vulnerable to ghost aircraft injection. Here is a backwards-compatible cryptographic signing scheme.
Because standard ADS-B messages provide only 112 bits of payload, we distribute 256-bit elliptic curve signatures across four sequential squitter bursts, reconstructed and verified by receiving receivers in under 200 milliseconds.
Field trials conducted near high-density international airports successfully rejected 100% of malicious SDR-transmitted fake ADS-B tracks without rejecting legitimate unauthenticated air traffic.
